China and Tunisia will hold a “Cultural Week” event in each other’s country in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as announced at a press conference at the Tunisian Embassy in Beijing on July 21, 2014.
“Chinese Cultural Week” will be held by the Chinese Ministry of Culture in Tunisia from Aug 8 - 14, including a symphony concert by the China National Opera House, a Mukam performance, and a photo exhibition of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between China and Tunisia. In particular, the orchestra from the China National Opera House will attend the 29th International Symphony Festival and hold two special concerts in other Tunisian cities, playing classic opera selections, including Le Nozze di Figaro, Turandot, and La dame aux camellias. The Xinjiang Mukan song and dance troupe will attend the 50th Carthage International Art Festival, showing the Mukam people, an intangible cultural heritage. Correspondingly, “Tunisian Cultural Week” will be jointly held by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tunisian Embassy in China from Sept 9 - 15, which will include a comprehensive exhibition on Tunisian art, performances of Tunisian traditional music and film screenings. Masterpieces of renowned Tunisian oil painters, Tunisian mosaics, and some other examples of Tunisian cultural relics will be exhibited in China. Also, some Tunisian mosaic masters will come to China to demonstrate their techniques.
China and Tunisia have seen a lasting, sound and stable development of bilateral relationships since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in January 1964. In recent years, there have been more cultural exchanges between the two countries. The cultural events in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationships will help the two countries enhance understanding of each other’s cultures, and promote a stable and sound development for a continued bilateral relationship.
