Ancient art preserved in Dunhuang

A young artist paints a clay sculpture at the Dunhuang Painted Statue Training Institute, June 26, 2014.Dunhuang intangible culture heritage preservationist Lu Xueqin has been exploring the production methods of the Dunhuang painted statues since the 1980’s. After years of practice he is able to create pieces based on the ancient craftwork of the original painted statues. In 2012, with the government’s support, he founded the Dunhuang Painted Statue Training Institute to teach young artists the Dunhuang style of painting statues. [Photo/Xinhua]
