An electrical engineering major, Liu Hongxin fell in love with the art of light painting in summer 2010. Liu was still a university student back then and, with his own effort, learned light painting from video clips featuring foreign artists' performances. After more than a year's practice, the self-taught light painter made his debut in October 2011, and has held nearly 100 performances eversince. In December 2013, Lin won acclaims for his outstanding performance in the hit talent show "China's Got Talent".
