(China.org.cn)

Situated in Beijing's Chaoyang District, the 798 Art Zone occupies an area of more than 600000 square meters. The place was originally the state-run Joint Factory 718. The name "798" was created based on the factory's previous name. Nowadays, "798" represents the cultural spirit of this artistic zone, characterized by "loft" living and a work style which is expressive and free. In recent years, 798 has gained much attention from both domestic and foreign media and artists. It has become the new landmark of Beijing urban culture.[China.org.cn]
