Civilian colors -- Song Dynasty (960-1279)
Compared with the colors used by the upper class, civilians usually used much simpler colors like light green, blue or white. Ordinary women in the Song Dynasty usually wore narrow-sleeved blouses with pantskirts or vented pants. They also wore turbans called gai tou when they went out or worked in the fields. Most of the turbans were deep green. The blouses and skirts were usually green or white. As shown in the picture, their bellybands and pants were bright red so they stood out underneath their coats, which featured cooler colors.
