Chinese Antique Collection

2013-07-25 16:41:12

These plate fragments dating back to the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) had an original diameter of 15.6 cm. The center displays three clouds surrounded by two dragons, a pattern that was typical of Kuan-Yao porcelain in that age, and means the porcelain was made in an imperial kiln. There is no known complete porcelain vessel with this pattern with a red overglaze and these particular fragments are the only porcelain with a red overglaze from the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty.
