A contest featuring Chinese language for Armenian college students was held in Yerevan, capital of Armenia, Thursday.

Nine students from Armenian universities participated in the event, the first of the kind in the South Caucasian country. Contestants competed in three segments featuring free speeches, Q& As and artistic performances.

The top prize went to Goara Gabrielyan, a 21-year-old girl from Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University, who was followed by the 19- year old Arusyak Hovhannisyan from Yerevan State University.

The two will represent Armenia for the final world contest, the 13th "Chinese Bridge" Competition to be held in Beijing later this year.

The "Chinese Bridge" Competition is an annual event organized by the Office of Chinese Language Council International with the Chinese Hanban affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. It has been held for university students of Chinese language and culture around the world since 2002.
