Compiled by Huang Fumi in the year of 259, it was composed of 10 volumes and was later divided into 12 volumes during the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-571).

The book stressed that a good acupuncture doctor should know how to use acupuncture to cure and prevent diseases, promoted the works of ancient doctors and the development of acupuncture. Meanwhile, the types of the needles used in acupuncture, along with the taboos, channels, location of points, and operation of acupuncture is also discussed in the book.
