The Shenyang Pingju Opera Troupe was founded in Nov. 1959 by merging the Liaoning Pingju Opera Troupe with the No.2 Liaoning Pingju Opera Troupe and the Shenyang Pingju Opera Troupe.

The Troupe has produced, edited and put on stage a number of high quality plays including "Little Son-in-law", "Tea Bottle Trap", "Spear Fight", "Xie Yaohuan", "The Dream of Red Mansion", "Half A Pair of Scissors", "Azalea Mountain", "Red Resistance Troops of the Honghu Lake", "Dai Nuo", "Guards under the Neon Light", "Disturbance in the Small Compound, "Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu", "Family", "The Happy Widow", "Mountain Family" and "Tragedy in Tianbo Mansion".

Representative plays, actors and actresses of the Troupe have won prizes in national and provincial competitions. For instance, modern Pingju opera play "The Happy Widow won the Good Script Award in the 4th National Competition; the Rose Award in the First Liaoning Theatrical Competition, major actress in the play Feng Yuping became the winner of the 5th Theatrical Plum Blossom Award, and its work team got the Artistic Rejuvenation Award of the Shenyang Municipal Government. Modern Pingju opera play "Mountain Family" won the 2nd Wenhua Award for New Theatrical Work; major actress of the play Song Li also won the Wenhua Award, the 9th Plum Blossom Award and the Liaoning Theatrical Rose Award. In the 3rd Shenyang Art Festival, "Tragedy in tianbo Mansion, won the Gold Rose Award, "Mountain Family", won the Silver Rose Award. In the National Pingju Opera Young Artists Competition, the Theater got 18 awards and came first in terms of total grades. The Old and the Young," and "In and Out of the Mountain", got 6 awards in the 3rd National Theatrical Festival. "Affection to Yangge Dance, won the 5th Wenhua Awards issued by the Ministry of Culture for New Theatrical Work "Geda Village", got the Gold Award in the 5th Liaoning Culture Art Festival.

Han Shaoyun, Hua Shulan and Xiao Junting, the founders of three major schools of the Pingju opera, are famous artists of the Troupe. Other major artists include Feng Yuping, Tian Jingyang, Gong Jing and Yang Langshuang.
