Peking Opera Theater of Heilongjiang Province

The Peking Opera Theater of Heilongjiang Province was set up in October 1950. Through the long-term artistic practice, the Theater continuously introduced new artists and turned out new works. In l960s, the modern Peking Operas Three Young Men and Taking up the Post created by the Theater participated in the Joint Performance of Modem Peking Operas in Northeast China. The modern Peking Opera Never Forget adapted by the Theater participated in the National Festival of Modern Peking opera. The young performers of the Theater had the honor to win three first acting prizes, the first three of the four prizes, in the Peking Opera group at the Young and Middle-aged Local Opera Performers Presentation Award of the First Swan Art Festival in Heilongjiang Province in 1987. At the Young and Middle-aged Local Operas Performance Competition of the Province in November 1990, the performers of the Theater had the honor to win 6 first prizes and 12 single item prizes in the Peking Opera group. The outstanding young Wusheng (male martial role in traditional opera) Li Shiyou gave a personal show of military plays in Shanghai and had the honor to win the White Magnolia chief role prize at the Shanghai Drama Festival in July 1990. In the same year, the Theater created and adapted three highlights from the traditional operas namely: "Beat the Old Foe", "Smash the Buddhist Temple and "Sacrifice to the River and presented them in Beijing. Lin Guilan and Cheng Xiuling won respectively the outstanding acting prize and acting prize at the National Traditional Opera Performers TV Competition. In 1996, the Theater presented in Beijing the historical play "Lost Dream at Guanshan" it had created, was highly acclaimed by the audience in the capital and was broadcasted live by CCTV. In March l992, Xing Meizhu, well-known Peking Opera performer, had the honor to win the Plum Blossom Award of Drama at the 9th China Drama Festival. In 1991, famous Jinghu (Peking Opera fiddle) musician Song Shifang successfully held a solo Jinghu concert in Beijing Music Hall.

The artists of the Theater visited earlier or later the United States, Japan, Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico, Russia, the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong and Taiwan regions. They were widely acclaimed by the audience wherever they performed.
