The Acrobatic Troupe of Shandong Province was founded in June 1959.

For some 40 years, the Troupe has created many high quality acrobatic shows including Man Juggling. Juggling the Bench with the Feet was awarded the Gold Clown Award in the 10thMonaco Monte International Circus and Acrobatic Festival in December 1984. In the 2ndNational Seedling Cup Acrobatic Competition in September 1993, Acrobatic Cycle won a gold prize and Group Bench Juggling of Five People won a silver prize. Two months later, Comic Straw Hat seized a Bronze Lion Award in the 4thChina Wuqiao International Acrobatic Art Festival. In September 1994, in the 2ndChina Wuhan International Acrobatic Art Festival, Acrobatic Cycle won the Gold Yellow Crane Award. In May 1995, Bench Juggling by Five People won a bronze prize in the Italy International Acrobatic Art Festival. In September of the same year, in the 4thNational Acrobatic Competition, Acrobatic Cycle, Bench Juggling by a Group Five and Handstand on Chairs captured the Gold Lion Award, and Straw Hat won the Silver Lion Award. In November 1996, in the Moscow International Circus and Acrobatic Festival, Hoop Juggling with Bowl Kicking won the Bronze Bear Award and Handstand Show won the Special Award. In February 1997, Acrobatic Cycle seized the Gold Clown Award in the 21stMonaco Monte Carlo International Circus and Acrobatic Festival, and was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Record. In 1998, Acrobatic Cycle was given the Wenhua New Performance Award issued by the Ministry of Culture. In April 1998, Comic Head Ball won a silver prize at the 1stNational Comic Show Competition.

In recent years, the Troupe actively expanded the international market, putting their performance to the stage of Canada, Japan, Norway, Sweden, the former GDR, the former Soviet Union, Romania, the former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Mongolia, Italy, Austria, India, Lao, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Puerto Rico, Britain, France, the U.S.A., Germany, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Holland, Indonesia and Hong Kong region, where they were warmly welcomed and highly praised. In 1998, in the premiere ceremony of the grand Cartoon Movie Mulan produced by the Disney Corp., U.S, the Shandong Acrobatic Troupe made excellent performances and caused sensation throughout Europe.
