Painter embraces East and West
Singaporean painter Lim Siang Hiong was invited to hold a show at Peking University during his visit to the university to donate his big painting Autumn Walk. The show, entitled Fusion of East and West, presents typical works of the 69-year-old, who is good at combining the bright colors from the oil painting and abstract ink lines from Chinese painting. His works on display depict landscapes, rural life of farmers and cowboys. Lin studied fine arts at the Singapore Academy of Fine Arts and later went to Paris for further studies in the 1970s.

Breaking through medium restraints
Intelligentsia Gallery's current exhibition The Relevance of the Critical Medium examines the evolution of all kinds of media, and how the transformation affects artistic and curatorial practices. It teams up five artists from home and abroad, including Ren Bo, Wu Yang, Coco Esteve, Vinzenz Reinecke and Geoff Overheu. They try to liberate the medium they work with from predetermined restraints.

Chang brings pop repertoire
Taiwan pop singer Jeff Chang, who is known for his Mandarin love ballads, brings his 2014 national tour to the capital. With more than 30 albums under his belt, Chang, 47, will perform his classical pop songs as well as his new singles.

Mountain-and-water tribute
The China National Academy of Painting's exhibition center is displaying more than 200 quality mountain-and-water works by the academy's 16 artists, including Long Rui, Xu Qinsong and Lu Yushun. Chiang Ming-hsien from Taiwan brings his 36-meter-long landscape New Fu Chun Shan Ju Tu (Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains), a tribute to the masterpiece of the same name by Yuan Dynasty painter Huang Gongwang (1269-1354). Chiang, now 72, is ranked among the most established and representative ink artists of his generation in Taiwan.
