I want to trace my thoughts, so I used every detail that I encountered in daily life in my paintings. But, as a matter of fact, my choice of these seemingly straightforward images shows my concerns and contemplations about life. These seemingly familiar signs lose their practical functions when transplanted into a new context. Alien circumstances provide us with a new visual angle to research. What looks to be casual associations of imagery are reflective of my thought processes and are representative of my viewpoints and attitudes. -- by Wei Qingji
