Dashilar-Liulichang Old-Line Shops’ Tourist Shopping Festival, originally called the Dashilar Old-Line Shops’ Tourist Shopping Festival, used to be held by the Dashilar Municipal District Office, Xichengqv Tourism Administration along with other departments. The festival this year is held on a much larger scale with two district offices cooperating together and incorporating different activities which used to be held respectively in the eastern and the western Liulichangs. The ten-day festival runs through October 31, and will include activities such as intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, sales promotions for old-line products, Chunshubei Peking Opera Fans Competition and a photography exhibition on Beijing.

With its historical relics and profound cultural traditions, Dashilar-Liulichang has been a gathering place for old-line shops and is one of the most important commercial cultural tourist streets where Beijing’s traditional culture can be experienced. After it was established in April, the Dashilar-Liulichang Chamber of Commerce launched the plan for a three-month festival called the 2013 Beijing Dashilar-Liulichang Commercial and Cultural Season for Excellent Works in order to boost the area’s economy while enlivening its cultural atmosphere.

As Yang Youcheng said at the opening ceremony, “The activities of the commercial and cultural season are bound to promote the development of the old-line companies while enhancing the popularity of Dashilar and Liulichang.”
