The Spring Festival is the oldest and most ceremonious traditional festival of China. Though people don't regard eating as an essential part of Spring Festival, a feast is still a must for the family reunion and get-togethers with friends.

The happy environment and delicious food stimulate the appetite, and the toast of good wine brings the feast to a climax. At the sumptuous reunion dinner on New Year's Eve when family members sit together, the younger generations will toast to the health of the elders, expressing their thanks and good wishes. At other get-together feasts, people toast to each other, exchanging good wishes for the coming new year.

In these occasions, it is impolite to refuse a toast to you. If you really don't drink wine, you'd better have some soft drinks, to toast and return a toast.
