Four Suggestions on Vegetable Management

1. Clear out ditches and drain water in time. During continuous rainy days, measures should be taken to drain the water in the field and to reduce the submergence of vegetables.

2. Harvest and plant vegetables in time. Even if vegetables are damaged or submerged by water, people should harvest vegetables that can still be taken to market as soon as possible to reduce their loss. After the harvest, quick-grown lefty vegetables such as Chinese cabbage should be planted quickly.

3. Enhance vegetable field management. When in good weather, people should take the opportunity to loosen soil, reduce soil moisture, apply fertilizer, make up the loss of soil nutrients, remove damaged or diseased leaves and eliminate insects, pests or diseases. For diseased plants, chemicals should be used accordingly and promptly.

4. Adopt the “sheltering from the rain” cultivation method. Make full use of pavilions to protect plants from rain. Avoid direct exposure to the rain and ponds in the field. Protecting vegetables from the rain is an efficient method to protect them from catching diseases and natural disasters during the Plum Rains season. Combined effectively with fly nets, this method can also protect vegetables from pests and reduce the use of pesticides.
