According to traditional Chinese medical science, the almond has the function of relieving coughs and reducing phlegm and relaxing the bowels. Almonds can be divided into two types—bitter and sweet. The sweet almond can be eaten directly as dessert, but the bitter almond should not be eaten directly because it is poisonous.
