Compared to other nuts, chestnuts have more carbohydrates and less protein and fat. What’s more, it contains carotene, lactoflavin, antiscorbic acid and other vitamins. Eating chestnuts can prevent and cure high blood pressure, coronary heart disease and osteoporosis and so on. It also has powerful anti-aging qualities.

Traditional Chinese medical science teaches that chestnut has the function of tonifying kidney-yin, strengthening the spleen and stomach, invigorate the circulation of blood and stopping bleeding. The nourishing function of chestnut can be compared favourably with panax, Astragalus hoangtchy and angelica and other traditional Chinese medicinal materials. However, because it contains plenty of sugar and amylum, the corpulent people should eat less.
