Getting familiar with the dance of the brush
After my first year of master studies, I was feeling a little bit bored. Not that there was nothing interesting to do or think about. Simply that I felt I needed to discover something new… I had the urge to go to another country, not for tourism but really to live there for some time and get an understanding of its culture. And of course, I wanted to learn a new language. Of course, I could tell something like: “I have always been so fascinated about China, its culture, its history and so on”. But that would be a fat lie.
Actually, I had been to China once, and for some reason, it was not a very happy experience and I was really not thinking I would go back. But some time had passed and while I was thinking about the different countries that could be the destination for my further studies and about the new languages I could learn, I accidentally stumbled upon Chinese calligraphy. In the streets of “le quartier latin” in the heart of Paris, I saw a small poster advertising for Chinese calligraphy and traditional painting classes. The pictures displayed attracted my attention, and as I realized the classroom was not too far away from my place, I decided to go there and see how things looked like.
