The Sixth Theatre Olympics began in Beijing on Nov. 1, 2014 with the opening of the Peking Opera "You and Me," produced by the National Center for the Performing Arts under the direction of well-known Chinese film director Zhang Yimou.
Over the next two months, 45 dramas,and dance performances by groups from 22 countries and regions will be staged in a dozen of theaters throughout Beijing.
In addition to excellent foreign plays, the event features various Chinese plays, including the kunqu opera "The Dream of the Red Chamber" and the Shanxi opera "The Injustice to Dou E," which introduce the international theater circle to traditional Chinese theater culture.
The Sixth Theatre Olympics makes balancing the number of plays of different genres a priority in order to provide diversified choices to audiences and reflect the openness and inclusiveness of the Theatre Olympics, said Theodoros Terzopoulos, chairman of the International Committee of the Theatre Olympics.
