An exhibition featuring over 380 photos from the past 100 years opened on September 19 at Stavanger Art Musuem in the Norwegian oil capital.

Stavanger Mayor Christine Sagen Helgoe officially opened the exhibition "Performance and Imagination: Chinese Photography 1911-2014."

The museum said that the exhibition, which showcases photographic works from all decades since 1910, is the most comprehensive presentation of historical and contemporary photographs from China ever mounted in Europe to date.

Included in the five-month long photo show are photos of the world-famous Beijing opera star Mei Lanfang (1894-1961).

Per Bjarne Boym, curator of the exhibition, said that he made several visits to China over the past five years in connection with this project.

Some photographers from China were present at Friday's opening ceremony.
