The best well-known play in Taiwan "Grand Immortal Ponglai"

1987 The first play to be invited to performed at the inauguration of National Theatre.

1992 PTV of Taiwan was the first to record the stage performance of Ming Hwa Yuan and broadcast on its PTV channel to promote the classic plays of Taiwanese opera.

1997 The third generation of Chen’s family of Ming Hwa Yuan performed at the Taiwan Children’s Traditional Arts Festival and received an exciting feedback for their performance on stage.

2006 Ming Hwa Yuan had its first oversea tour by stepping onto the African continent. It performed in thetheater at Johan nesburg of South African and in the suburban tribes at Malawi, crossing the language and cultural barrier.

2007 Ming Hwa Yuan performed at the outdoor plaza of Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Theatre and National Concert Hall in Taipei City. More than 100, 000 peoplegathered to watch the performance, which broke the record of outdoor performance attendance in Taiwan. Ming Hwa Yuan, representing Taiwan, performed in Nanchang City of Jianxi Province at the Cross Strait Culture and Arts Festival.

"Grand Immortal of Ponglai” had its first appearance twenty years ago at the National Theatre in Taiwan. The story of how Lee Shuan, the most handsome immortal in Heaven, received enlightenment and became Grand immortal of Ponglai has attracted the eyes of hundreds of thousands of fans through more than 1,000 sessions of performance ever since. Last year, during the outdoor performance at the plaza of National Theatre, 100,000 people had experienced the charisma of “Grand Immortal of Ponglai” over one single night, setting a record that would be difficult to break in the near future.

The folklore story of “Grand Immortal of Ponglai” has been told in numerous cities and townships around Taiwan during the past twenty years. Meanwhile Ming Hwa Yuan, the oriental theatrical legend with a history of eighty years, not only impressed the world of performing arts in Taiwan, but also caught the attention of the world. In 2008, starting from Esplanade, the theater on the bay in Singapore, Ming Hwa Yuan will again ignite the passion of the world with the timeless story of “Grand Immortal of Ponglai.”
