'Goddess of the Sea' shows up at Sea Sacrifice Festival

Four women dressed up as the Goddess of the Sea participate in the annual Sea Sacrifice Festival in Tianheng Town, Jimo County, Shandong province, March 16, 2014. Living mainly on fishing, local people believe that the Goddess of the Sea can protect fishermen from danger. A legend that still lives today among residents is that the goddess once raised a lamp for lost fishing boats to come back safely. [Wang Haibin/chinadaily.com.cn]
