YU Weiwei

"I became deaf from a childhood illness. At that time, my parents tried every means to cure me. I had to receive painful injections, which made me cry. My mum told me to be a brave boy, so I swallowed the pain and held back my tears. And that made my mum cry.

In 1995 I was enrolled in the Special School to study wood sculpture and pottery. You can not imagine how much I love the clay and soil. I soon began to win prizes for porcelain works.

I haven't received much education and can't make long speeches. But I know from the bottom of my heart that hardship is part of life, and if I want to achieve something I need to work harder than normal people. I have my own ideals and visions: to keep my spirit, to be strong, and to do good for society as an artist."
