The 2014 China-Japan-South Korea International Symposium on Museums was held at the China Capital Museum on Dec 2. Representatives from the China Capital Museum, Seoul Museum of History and Shenyang Palace Museum attended the meeting.
The symposium, launched by China Capital Museum, Japan Edo-Tokyo Museum, and Seoul Museum of History, is alternately held in China, Japan, and South Korea each year.
The symposium this year was undertaken by China Capital Museum and themed “Modern Collections of City Museums set up a Connection with Audiences”. Two topics were set for discussion, “How city museums cooperate to hold exhibitions, with Edo as an example” and “Summarizing the 10-year achievements of China-Japan-Korea International Symposium on Museums and planning on the future cooperation”. To put it simply, “Collections and audiences” and “The exchanges and cooperation among museums” were the major focus at the symposium. Fourteen essays concerning these two points were studied and discussed at the symposium in the form of keynote speeches and group seminars.
The symposium aims to further promote the academic exchanges among museums in these three countries, work out a new cooperative model based on experience in the past 10 years, probe into the developmental path of city museums and figure out better ways to give full play to their potential. Also, it is an effective way to promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding among the people of China, Japan and South Korea.
