Beijing has 170 museums, second only to London in its number of museums. And it is estimated that 8,000 museums will have been set up across China by 2022. There will be one museum for every 200,000 Chinese.

The 2014 China-Japan-South Korea International Symposium on Museums was held at the China Capital Museum on Dec 2. Representatives from the China Capital Museum, Seoul Museum of History and Shenyang Palace Museum attended the meeting.

According to Huang Xueyin, vice director of the China Capital Museum, the number of Chinese museums has been on a steep rise, with a total of 800 million visits to museums each year. Beijing has surpassed New York, Madrid, and Berlin and came on the heels of Berlin in its number of museums.

China appropriates roughly 2 billion yuan each year on promoting the establishment and development of museums, which is almost unparalleled in the world.
