Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Yang Houlan gave a speech at the opening ceremony.

A two-week Chinese Buddhist Pictures Display, namely "Homage to the Buddha" took place at Myanmar's famous Shewdagon Pagoda in Yangon on Monday to enhance ties between the two countries' Buddhist circles and peoples.

A total of 65 religious photos of Buddhist monks and nuns from various monasteries in Hangzhou, China's Zhejiang province, were displayed at Chanthargyi Tasaung of Shwedagon Pagoda.

The exhibition, organized by the Chinese embassy in Myanmar in cooperation with the Board of Trustee of the Shwedagon Pagoda, will last until January 19 with free of charge.

Present at the occasion were Chinese Ambassador Yang Houlan, China-Myanmar Friendship Association Chairman U Sein Win Aung who is also the member of the Board of Trustee.

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Yang Houlan said in his speech that Myanmar and China have long history in Buddhism.

Yang also expressed his hope that the exhibition will allow more Myanmar monks and people to understand the Chinese Buddhist culture.

The exchange of religion has become the highlight of the Buddhist cultural exchanges between the two countries, Yang added.

Last year, three Sakyamuni tooth-relic stupa replicas were donated by China at the Shwedagon Pagoda for public obeisance.

At White Horse Temple of Luoyang in Henan Province, the replica of Myanmar's Shwedagon Pagoda will be completed this year, he said.

The Sakyamuni tooth sarira, currently housed in a golden pagoda in Lingguang Temple, has been taken to Myanmar for public obeisance for four times in 1955, 1994, 1996 and 2011, Ambassador Yang said.

For his part, U Sein Win Aung said that the exhibition reveals how the Chinese people practice Buddhism freely in China, bringing the religious relationship between the two countries closer.

Myanmar new president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce U Myint Shwe said in an interview with Xinhua that this photo exhibition not only can enhance understanding of Chinese Buddhism in Myanmar Buddhist community but also can promote the traditional friendship between the two peoples.
