 Wang Jieyin

Born in Shanghai, 1941 Professor, College of Fine Arts, Shanghai University

"I realized that Chinese painting is closely related to Chinese people’s genes. When I was young, I had little interest in Chinese tradition and admired Repin and Surikov. Later, after I studied in a western country, my my opinions changed. Now, I feel an instinctive inclination for Chinese traditional culture, which agrees with my Chinese genes. World culture is like a roaring train, western culture working as an excellent booster and Chinese culture as the speed reducer which seems conservative but is actually indispensable."
