Giant cartoon models, cosplay performances and games are just some of the reasons fans attend the annual Shanghai International Animation Expo. 35-thousand people have visited the expo on its first day alone, proving that Shanghai locals are feverish about anything animated.

Giant models of Kungfu Panda and the Transformers at the gate of the expo welcome swarms of enthusiastic animation fans. Because of the long line of visitors snaking their way to the gate, the organizer has shift the opening time from 10 o’clock to 9.

The booth for Oriental DreamWorks, a joint venture with American Dream Works, headlines 325 companies from home and abroad, all offering their latest products.

Apart from its involvement in making the 3D version of the upcoming Kungfu Panda 3, Oriental DreamWorks will also release its own animated film project in 2017. That’s when their 15 billion yuan project, a massive animation studio called "DreamWorks Center", will be unveiled.

Oriental DreamWorks is our Chinese-owned animation company. We aim to bring the ideas and advanced technology of Hollywood right here to China, and to integrate them with Chinese characteristics. Xu Zhihao, Staff Member of Oriental Dreamworks said.

Disney is bringing a trendy twist to the expo, with icon Micky appearing on modern promotional boards, as blue-and-white porcelain statues, or on this "Frame Flipping" device.

Fake tatoos featuring exotic Mickey patterns are also popular with visitors. Just like its iconic mouse, Disney is always resourceful in how to make its fans happy.

The design of the Disney area is very arty, very trendy, we enjoy it very much.

Domestic animation companies are out in force at the expo. Among them, Toomax is promoting its latest effort, a stage drama based on the classic Japanese animation series Smart Ikkyu-San. Visitors stumble upon cosplay performers everywhere, transporting them directly to the make-believe world of a popular series or game. Fans can also use their voices to get in on the fun.
