Culture relics find home

The State Bureau of Cultural Relics recently contributed more than 10,000 pieces of culture relics confiscated by Beijing Customs to the Prince Gong Mansion Museum. The lots, ranging from porcelain to furniture, coins, bronze ware, Buddhist sculptures, ink paintings and calligraphy, had been accumulated since the 1980s. A majority of the pieces are classified as first-class and second-class by the bureau, experts say. Among them is a precious Qing Dynasty rosewood dressing case once used by aristocrat women.

Forest music festival

The second China Forest Music Festival will feature the China Philharmonic Orchestra and renowned local conductor Yang Yang. The festival will be held in the depth of Yichun's lush forest and will include traditional Chinese classics such as a highly anticipated performance by respected erhu player Song Fei, and a series of traditional musical acts from various Chinese ethnic cultures. Located in the southeast of Heilongjiang province and sharing a natural water border with Russia, Yichun is one of China's main forest areas. More than 86 percent of the town is covered with jungle, making Yichun the world's largest Korean pine forest. The festival will run until Aug 28.

China-UN on film

The film festival United Nations and China: A Cinematic Journey was recently launched in Renmin University of China in Beijing. More than 200 experts and scholars in the fields of diplomatic, journalism, culture and films, and representatives from international organizations, and about 800 teachers and university students enjoyed seven short documentaries about China's participation in UN issues. Since China was re-admitted into the UN in 1971, the country has played an important role in many issues such as the maintenance of world peace. The United Nations Television recorded these activities, and it was the first time the footage was shown to the public.
