The first Cultural Industries Fair held in the city of Taiyuan in Shanxi province has just concluded. A multitude of arts and crafts were on display, many of them showcasing the richness of the area’s indigenous cultural heritage.

Wood carving, classic weaving machines, clay sculptures and more...Over 12 hundred exhibitors took part in the fair with more than 10 thousand exhibits on show, with artists also demonstrating their crafts.

The successful event presented the multi-faceted dimensions of Shanxi folk culture as well as its modern cultural developments. Papercutting, for example, boasts a history of over 3,000 years and is listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. Now it’s also become part of local people’s lives.
