'Wei' Selected China's Character of The Year for 2012

 

Chinese director Feng Xiaogang won the award for being the cutting-age character in 2012 because of his film titled "Back to 1942". When China is developing and becoming a great power, Feng brought people back to the history and made them recall the unbearable memories through the film.

Since 2006, the selection activity added "Special Awards" to commend the persons, events and organizations having distinctive features, extraordinary significances and unique value in social life every year.

In 2012, the winners of "Special Awards" are The Bite of China, a documentary tasting local cuisine of China with visual sense, the Voice of China, a variety show creating the biggest surprise in China's pop music and TV in the second half of 2012, and Liu Zhenyun who told the loneliness of Chinese people with humor in his novel "I am not Pan Jinlian".

In addition, the "Back to 1942" was awarded "Film of the Year", the "Empresses in the Palace" "TV play of the Year", "Out of Place", a novel written by an author under a pen name "Ye Fu", the "Book of the Year", micro-blog user nicknamed "hua zong diu le jin gu bang", the "Anti-corruption character of the Year", Wu Mochou, "Singer of the Year", Liu Xiaodong "Artist of the Year" ,and Zhang Yang, "Living Expert of the Year" for his attitude toward life.

The selection activity was sponsored by the New Weekly, a magazine of China, and focused on the hot characters and events based on "media's view, experts' opinion, and new perspective". Members of recommendation commission include senior media persons such as CCTV host Bai Yansong and vice chief executive of HKSTV Yang Jinlin.
