Beijing Music Festival Celebrates Ten Years

To commemorate the BMF's 10th anniversary, the festival has commissioned composer and maestro Krzysztof Penderecki to conduct his Symphony No. 8. The China Philharmonic Orchestra, the EuropaChorAcademie and three vocalists will join him in presenting his wonderful composition to Chinese audiences.

The July 2007 world premiere of Poet Li Bai by the Central City Opera in Colorado, USA, was a phenomenal success. On Oct 9, 2007, BMF presents the opera's China premiere in the Beijing Poly Theatre.

The “Chinese Concept,” which the Beijing Music Festival has promoted for ten years, will still be emphasized this year. The BMF 2007 attracts Chinese composer Tan Dun, Meastro Penderecki’s East-West Dialogue, and an all Guo Wenjing concert program. The performances underscore BMF's commitment to promote Chinese music and to showcase and co-commission works by Chinese composers.

BMF, endorsed by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Beijing Municipal Government, has become one of the grandest and most significant annual cultural events in Asia and has attracted artists and audiences from all over the world. The Festival offers a wide variety of music, including operas, symphonic and chamber music concerts, musicals, and even jazz performances.
