Beijing Music Festival Celebrates Ten Years

The city is immersed in music these days as the tenth Beijing Music Festival (BMF), which runs for more than a month, raised its curtain at the Poly Theater on September 21.

The annual BMF has become a highlight of Beijing'sculture and arts calendar since it started in 1998.

Celebrating its tenth year this year, BMF invited Lang Lang, one of today's most popular young pianists both in China and abroad, to perform. He is playing an unparalleled 10 concertos in one month with five world famous symphony orchestras, cooperating with six great conductors. The concertos include works by Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Mozart, Haydn and Tchaikovsky.

"It is a birthday gift for the BMF and a special treat for my fans in Beijing," explained Lang Lang. “Actually, it's interesting to be able to play so many great composers'concertos with different orchestras and conductors in a single month. I will try my best and hope to live up to expectations."
