ChiFra 2013 art exhibition celebrates diplomatic anniversary

Jointly held by the Center of International Cultural Exchange, Ministry of Culture of China and the French Sofia Foundation, the ChiFra 2013 art exhibition showed collectors and art lovers from around the world classic works from Chinese and French artists. Chinese and French oil painting, sculpture, printmaking from more than 40 artists and over 100 pieces of classic works over the past 30 years were exhibited during October 23-30, in Paris in front of the Grand Palais.

Most of the 28 Chinese artists took part in this exhibition to have the experience of travelling to France to learn oil painting and sculpture. The artists learned about the development of Western culture, and then mixed the characteristics of Western culture with their own hometown traditions, forming a special kind of cultural expression. At the same time, works from both countries were shown under the same roof, giving audiences a glimpse into the differences between the Chinese and French concepts of art and tradition, and and having an exchange and dialogue in artistic techniques.

The exhibition will move to the mainland, including Beijing and Shanghai, as the opening exhibition for a series of cultural activities celebrating the upcoming 50th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations, promoting Sino-French artistic exchanges, and promoting to build China's cultural arts into the world.

Highlight: Works by Chinese and French artists were shown under the same roof, giving audiences a look into the differences between the Chinese and French concepts of art and tradition, while having an exchange and dialogue on artistic styles.
