Tips on Preserving Life in Late Spring

A saying goes like this: “spring is the most important season of the year.” So is preserving life.

“But, there are great differences between Early spring, Mid-Spring and Late spring for preserving life,” says the associated professor Yang Wenlian, who has worked as a Chinese Medical Specialist for more than thirty years. For example, people need to be activated and drive away the cold from the winter in early spring; in mid-spring, the spleen has to be nourished; lessening the heat from the body must be prevented during late spring.

Professor Yang said, “It is still timely to start preserving one’s health from now on though this is the last solar term in late spring.” There are some sayings about Grain Rain: “Rain brings the growth of hundreds of grains, and snow stops during clear brightness (Qing Ming); frost ends when Grain Rain arrives.” The average temperature reaches 12 degrees Celsius and above, with lots of rainfall—or “grain fall!” It is the best time in a year, with luxuriant greens and blossoms everywhere. The state of mind is the best at this time, thus people should pay attention to nourishing life.
