Red-inked manuscript of the Office of the South in Qianlong’s reign (1736–1795)

24 x 15 cm

This play is a ceremonial play for the Qing Court. Entitled Zhongsi (cricket, a symbol of prolific offspring), it encourages harmony among the women of the palace and prosperity for the royal family.

One of the Eight Immortals, Lu Dongbin is not only famous for his skills and benevolence but the richness and longevity he brought forth. His humour and free manner are also widely appreciated. Numerous plays are based on tales of the Immortals.
