The Swedish Academy, which grants the Nobel Prize, aware of Lu Xun’s contribution to and influence on Chinese literature, sent someone to ask him if he would like to be nominated in 1927.

Lu replied: "Liang Qichao is naturally unworthy to win Nobel bounty and I am not worthy to bring this money either," adding that Sweden had better not consider a Chinese writer for if a Chinese were given the prize, just because of favoring yellow skin, it would enhance Chinese people's vanity.
