The Beijing Olympic commemorative banknote, 148.5mm in length, 72.0mm in width, in the 10 RMB denomination, was issued by the People's Bank of China in 2008 to mark the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing. The figure on one side of the banknote is the 2008 Olympics’ main stadium, the Bird’s Nest, with the Temple of Heaven in the background. The figure on the other side is the ancient Greece statue Discobolos, with different athletes in the background. This commemorative banknote has a circulation of 6,000,000.

The Mid-Autumn Festival commemorative banknote, issued by Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd in 2012, is the first commemorative banknote featuring a traditional Chinese festival. One side of the banknote depicts children playing with lanterns at the Mid-Autumn lantern fair. The big carp lantern in the background respresents year by year, rich enough. These commemorative banknotes with 20 HKD denominations circulate in the Hong Kong currency market.

The Bank of China, established in 1912, is one of most important banks in modern Chinese history. To mark the 100th anniversary of the Bank of China’s founding, in 2012 the lotus commemorative banknotes were issued in Macau. The picture on the banknote depicts a lotus in a special vertical stance, indicating a peaceful and prosperous Macau, since lotus is the official flower for the Macao Special Administrative Region. This commemorative banknote, 153mm in length, 76.5mm in width, comes in the 100 MOP denomination and has a circulation of 3,000,000.
