Arts Centre Melbourne and Playking Productions won both the Theatre and Partnerships categories for Cho Cho, a co-production with the National Theatre of China for a new interpretation of the classic story of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly. It takes the story to 1930s Shanghai with a musical in Mandarin and English played by outstanding Chinese and Australian actor/singers.

The rest China awards winners includes The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Bearcage Pty Ltd, Jayne Dyer, Multimedia Art Asia Pacific Inc, Warburton Community Inc (Warburton Arts Project) and 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art for Sydney Pavilion.

The Australian government’s Australia in the Asian Century White Paper and Creative Australia—the first national cultural policy in nearly 20 years—set the scene for the next decade and beyond, encouraging and supporting the development of stronger, broader and deeper cultural ties with Asian nations including through the efforts of our artists and arts sector.
