Tips for Travel:
Lijiang can be conveniently reached by both plane and train. There is no major change in temperature all year. Due to its high altitude, the summer is cool and the temperatures drop suddenly with rain. Summer is a peak season for travel. The best time to see the snow mountain is from October to April when there are fewer clouds.
Tourists can rent a motor vehicle from the Old Town of Lijiang to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain or take a direct bus from the Sun Square. Going with a travel agency is recommended as guides have a ready knowledge of culture and history, and trips to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Blue Moon Valley, Baishui River, Dongba Valley, Yushui Village, Shuhe Old Town, the rental fee for a down coat and oxygen cylinder and cable car tickets are all covered.
Notable local foods include Naxi roast meat, Naxi big pot dish (types of vegetables cooked with dried pork), Dongba grilled fish, Lijiang bean jelly, dried pork hot pot, and many other dishes.
An even more tranquil alternative to Lijiang is the Shuhe Old Town just 20 minutes' from Lijiang Old Town by car. Tourists can visit the scenic spots of Sifangjie, Green Dragon Bridge, Longquan Temple (Dragon Spring Temple) or ignore them and enjoy the town's slow pace of life.
