Wu Xiongchen and Huang Yongjin: Promoting Chinese catering culture in Cape Verde

Recommended by the China Cuisine Association and invited by Cape Verde-China Friendship Association, Wu Xiongchen and Huang Yongjin, had been chosen as Chinese cultural volunteers to promote Chinese catering culture in Cape Verde from June 5 to 12, 2017, by CICA.

Wu Xiongchen is the executive chef of an exclusive restaurant in East China's Fujian province, while Huang Yongjin is from Quanzhou Top Chef Studio in Fujian province. They showed their culinary skills and made two Chinese cuisines, as well as delivered a lecture about Chinese catering culture on the Cape Verde international mackerel festival, which intrigued local people and won a prolonged applause. They also taught cuisine skills to local students from a cuisine training class, giving them gifts, such as Chinese cuisine books, condiments and Chinese tea, and the students said "thanks" in mandarin Chinese to these two teachers to show their appreciation.

The two chef volunteers were well prepared before leaving China. They did some research and experiments to make cuisines that would suit the local people while still showcase the Chinese traditional characters. It is their brilliant cooking skills and passion for Chinese cuisine that received the local's welcome, which encourages the friendship and cultural exchange between China and Cape Verde.
