At the invitation of the organizing committee of the 8th Iguazú en Concierto, a traditional Chinese instrumental orchestra made up of 16 students from the College of Chinese Opera of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, took part in the festival in Argentina from May 20 to June 1. The group was sent by the China International Culture Association (CICA) and the Shanghai International Culture Association.

Sending young Chinese musicians to the festival is an important part of the CICA’s Oriental Express project, which launched in 2004. It brings the brightest young musicians and music groups in China to the world stage, increasing their global visibility through marketing, promotion and public relations.

Iguazú en Concierto is a music festival designed to annually bring together hundreds of children and youth, under the age of 18, from around the world in a wonderful natural setting – the Iguazú Falls.

In its eighth event, themed Myths and Legends Story, Iguazú en Concierto united more than 700 children and youth from across 12 countries of 5 continents. Children played symphony, along with Chinese folk music, jazz, tango, dance music, African music and other national repertoire from across the world. Ballet, musical, solo and other comprehensive art forms were also added into the 2017 festival. A total of 16 members of the traditional Chinese instrumental orchestra offered an excellent performance, making Chinese flavor become a highlight of the music festival.

The orchestra participated in a total of three shows from May 22 to 28. They performed Chinese famous pieces, including Night Thoughts and The Monkey King, with traditional Chinese instruments, such as guzheng, pipa, dulcimer, erhu, sheng, suona and drums.
