As distinguished for its ancient rural civilization, China is also noted for its time-honored legacy of abundant folk arts, among which the most outstanding embodiment in the modern sense would be the range of Chinese farmer paintings.

The history of Chinese farmer paintings in the modern sense can be dated from the 1950s. These works have a strong flavor of country life, showing both marked traits of pristine painting-styles and positive and optimistic sentiments for life. As rich in imagination, bold in artistic technique and mighty in tint and coloration, they are vivid representations of farmer artists’ love for life, which move and inspire us with the beauty of primeval life and the Utopian vision of modern legend.

So as to give the farmer painting category a more diversified lineage as a whole, this Chinese Farmer Painting Exhibition will showcase the richness of representation skills which farmer artists in different areas of China deploy in presenting their realistic life.
