The Tanghu site is at to places at the south and east parts of Tanghu village, which boasts the name “emperor mouth” as it is a confluence of two rivers. Covering an area of 1.4 million square meters, the ruins contain different cultural relics from different periods, such as Peiligang culture, Yangshao culture, Longshan culture, Shang culture and Zhou culture.
Among them Peiligang cultural period occupied an area of 30 thousands square meters, it is the largest excavated Peiligang cultural ruins so far. At the living areas, 63 houses, 204 caves, 1 drainage system and 1 moat are found. What makes experts surprised is the first discovery of 3 double room houses sites, and two groups of houses are arranged in lines. The new discoveries provide an important clue to settlement archaeology of early Neolithic age.
