Shanghai Ballet

The Shanghai Ballet, named in 1979, grew out of the White-haired Girl Performing Group of the Shanghai Dance School. The Ballet Company presented the dance dramas "Rose", "Soul", "Ah Q", "Thunderstorm", "White-Snake", "Alibaba and Forty Robbers", "Swan Lake", "The Daughter Cannot Be Confined and "Giselle" since its founding. From 1984, the Ballet Company rehearsed one-act play "Deep Pool", modern ballet drama The Enlightenment of the Native Soil and modern dance The Sky and Earth, the Length and Breadth, Pirouette. It also created new visions of the ballet dramas "Coppelia" and "Don Quixote". In 1990s, the Ballet Company produced one-act dance drama Goddess, modern dance Flower Sacrifice and pas de deux Twine. In Addition, the Ballet Company invited ballet artists from Japan, Russia and the United States to help rehearse the dance drama "Nutcracker", Romeo and Juliet and "The Story of the King". The Ballet Company has visited Japan, the DPRK, France, Canada, the United States, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong and Taiwan regions.

The well-known dancers of the Ballet Company are Shi Zhongqin, Ling Guiming, Mao Huifang, Wang Qifeng, Yang Xinghua, Du Hongling, Xin Lili, Cai Lijun, Zhang Li, Shi Hui, Sun Xiaojun, Zhang weiying, Sun Shenyi, Fan xiaofeng and Fu Shu. Among them, Wang Qifeng won the first medal for China at the 2nd International Ballet Competition in Japan in May 1980. Xin Lili and Yang xinghua won the first prize of pas de deux at the 3rd Ballet Competition in France in November 1988.
