Guangzhou hosts design event

The organizers of the Guangzhou Design Week, the first international design business event in China since 2006, will host a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers.

The activities will be held during the annual design event, which opened in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, on Dec 7.

The Guangzhou event became a member of the IFI, the global voice for professional interior architects and designers, in May.

As part of the celebrations of IFI's 50th anniversary, both sides will announce a declaration, which will help to promote design as an economic and policy tool for economic and industrial development, said Li Yujun, deputy director of the Guangzhou Economic and Trade Commission.

"The declaration is part of our efforts to raise the standard of the profession," Li said.

Also, both sides will hold the sixth IFI Culture Innovation Design Dialogue, which plays an influential role in the international design industry, according to Li.

The design week has a display area of 30,000 square meters, with interior, industrial and innovative design exhibitions.
