World Traditional Wushu Championships Starts in Central China

The 5th World Traditional Wushu Championships kicked off here on Wednesday in Huangshan, Anhui province, with about 2,865 Wushu fans of 245 teams from 50 countries and regions competing in the three-day competition running from Nov. 8- Nov. 10.

Among the attendants, there are 1,232 international athletes from 85 foreign teams and 1,633 from 160 Chinese teams.

The competition, which is well-known as the Wushu Olympic Games, consists of individual, dual and group events as the individual events include traditional Quanshu and traditional apparatus.

"Wushu, regardless of nations and races, belong to the whole mankind. We will surely fulfill the glorious mission of writing a new chapter in promoting international Wushu movement, world cultural exchanges and friendship and solidarity of people all over the world," said Yu Zaiqing, president of International Wushu Federation.

"Let's join hands and work together to make this event a gala of friendship, harmony and success," Yu said.
