The Hong Kong International Art Fair (ART HK) 2010 launching on May 27 will showcase stronger works from more top level galleries, said Magnus Renfrew, the fair director here Wednesday.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Renfrew said more than 150 galleries from 29 countries and regions are participating in this year's art fair, which is the third time being held in the city.
International art world glitterati like Takashi Murakami, Jay Jopling, Zhang Xiaogang, Antony Gormley and Baz Lurhmann will be joining the fair.
"ART HK is acting as a catalyst for spreading excitement for art and culture events far beyond the fair itself," the director said the fair has received more than 300 applications this year.
Adding a new dimension will be more than ten solo exhibitions by an eclectic selection of international artists, which include artists from Japan, Israel, Australia, the U.K. and some other regions.
Also featuring in the fair will be a lineup of contemporary Chinese art leading by Liu Ye, whose painting Bright Road sold for a record 2.45 million US dollars at Sotheby's this April.
"Last year, we had a total of 27,856 visitors attending the show and we expect a better number this year," he told the reporter after the briefing.
The art fair will last until May 30.
