Beijing Palace Museum curator visits Taiwan for cultural exchange

Chou Kung-shin, the director of the “National Palace Museum” in Taipei, said at the ceremony that “most of the cultural relics in our museum came from the Palace Museum in Beijing. They have been carefully preserved since they arrived were.”

Chou said it was of great importance for the two museums to exchange professional experiences. “Both sides could gain benefits through sincere cooperation.”

The mainland delegation visited the “National Palace Museum” and hold symposium with their Taipei counterparts during their visit, and returned to Beijing on March 4.

The Chinese museum agreed to the exhibit and other cooperation programs last month when the head of Taiwan’s “National Palace Museum” visited Beijing. And during his four-day visit, Beijing museum curator discussed with the Taiwan’s National Palace Museum on the loan of 29 Qing Dynasty relics to Taiwan for an exhibition this fall.

The visit came two weeks after the Taipei Museum’s delegation, headed by the museum director Chou Kung-shin, visited Beijing and Shanghai from Feb. 14 to Feb. 19.

Earlier during the Chou’s visit to Beijing, the curators agreed that both sides would meet for a cultural seminar on an annual basis. They said they would do their best to provide audio and video materials for publications associated with research at the museum. Also, a scholar exchange program will kick off next year.

Chou said, “We’ll have more discussions about our future cooperation. Also we hope long term regular exchange programmes will be established.”
